The 2007 Acura MDX car model is a second generation MDX that was first unveiled at the New York International Auto Show in April of 2006, showcasing the car's exterior styling of the upcoming completely redesigned MDX. Six months later, the model was officially released.
This new generation of MDX, which features a wider track and longer wheelbase than the previous model, had its unit body produced with Honda's Advanced Compatibility Engineering (ACE) and was designed to absorb energy from a collision. The MDX are equipped with High Intensity Discharge (Xenon) low beam headlights. According to principal exterior designer Ricky Hsu, the latest MDX model was inspired by the Wallypower 118 luxury yacht which has a bold and clean line. Its length has increased by 2.25 inches to 190.7, with an upgraded 3.7-liter engine which Acura claims to be the most potent V-6 in any SUV. In terms of power, MDX can tow 5,000 pounds, 3,000 more than its predecessor. It can also ford 20-inch deep water.
Consumers may select from three package options namely, Sport, Tech and Entertainment. The Sport package features active suspension dampers (co-developed by Honda and Delphi) that dynamically improves handling according to road conditions with a button in the center stack to switch to Sport/Comfort modes. Upon pressing this button, the default "Sport" mode switches to "Comfort" mode which will switch the magneto-rheological dampers to a softer setting. It also has a unique 5-spoke aluminum-alloy wheels, perforated leather seats and the items in the Tech package. The Tech package on the other hand boasts of a Acura/Alpine DVD-based satellite GPS navigation system from the AcuraLink satellite communications with real-time traffic reporting (XM NavTraffic), as well as a 410-watt Acura/ELS DTS Surround audio system with XM Satellite Radio and rearview camera. The Entertainment Package meanwhile provides a flip-down 9-inch (230 mm) LCD screen with 2 wireless Dolby Digital headphones, second-row heated outboard seats, a unique center-stack silver trim and a remote powered liftgate, operated either from the key's remote, inside the car or directly from the lift gate.
Canadian Acura MDX models gets both heated front seats and second-row heated outboard seats, more importantly it has a distinct feature called headlight washers. Package-wise, the Canadian MDX models are available only in Technology and Elite packages. The Technology Package is virtually the same with the US version while the Elite Package blends the American model's Sport and Entertainment Packages with the exception of the AcuraLink real-time traffic reporting through XM NavTraffic which is not available for Canadian MDX cars.
The 2007 MDX and RDX models were the first Acura models to pass the Acura Quality Line---a special quality control and verification process separate from the other Honda vehicles.
