The 2008 Bahrain Grand Prix is the third race of the 2008 Formula One season, and will run from the 4th through the 6th of April, 2008 at the Bahrain International Circuit in Sakhir, Bahrain. This year's event marks only the 5th time the country played host to a Formula One grand prix.

There will be a couple of press conferences prior to the event, one starting at 3 in the afternoon on Friday, and the other taking place a day after at 4 in the afternoon. Friday practice sessions will be held at 10 in the morning and 2 in the afternoon while the Saturday practice will start at 11 A.M. The qualifying round begins at 2 in the afternoon on the 5th while the main event will take place on the 6th of April, Sunday, at 2:30 and will be preceeded by a Drivers Track Parade. (All times are subject to change)

Last year, the Ferrari of Felipe Massa continued its hot streak from the previous round in Malaysia, this time, making it all the way with a sweep as he took pole position, recorded the fastest lap, and eventually bagged the win in the race. He took the pole via his time of 1:32.652, recorded the fastest lap at 1:34.067, and finished the race at 1:33.27.515. McLaren's Lewis Hamilton and Ferrari teammate Kimi Räikkönen maintained their spots from the qualifying and finished in second and third spots at the podium. Michael Schumacher has established the fastest lap record at 1:30.252 in the 2004 race.

Circuit History

The Bahrain International Circuit, located at Sakhir, 30 km south-west of the island's capital, Manama, was constructed on November of 2002 and was eventually completed by March of 2004. Its creation was initiated after the country sealed a long-term deal with formula one to host the event.

The circuit, which is 5.411 km long and has a capacity of 50,000, allows for diverse racing lines with its 12 corner design giving the drivers at least three chances to overtake their opponents.

On the 4th of April 2004, the BIC was part of history when it hosted the first formula one grand prix in Middle East, sponsored by Gulf Air. Several countries in the ME region competed with Bahrain to host the prestigious event, including Egypt, Lebanon and Dubai. The 2004 race was awarded by the FIA with the "Best Organised Grand Prix" award.
