The 2008 Monaco Grand Prix is the sixth round of the 2008 Formula One season, and will be taking place at the Circuit de Monaco in Monte Carlo from the 22nd through the 25th of May 2008. It will be the 66th Monaco Grand Prix with the first ever event emanating in 1929.

The event will open up with a pair of practice sessions on the 22nd, starting with one at 10 in the morning and another at 2 in the afternoon. Practices will resume on the 24th, with a Saturday practice at 11 in the morning before the qualifying rounds begin at 2 P.M. Actual race will start at 2 P.M. of the 25th, Sunday. (All times are subject to change)

Double world champion Fernando Alonso and then teammate Lewis Hamilton dominated from qualifying through the actual race last year. Alonso got the pole position with his time of 1:15.726 then won the race at 1:40:29.329 despite a controversy that initiated investigations from the FIA when the team handed out orders which is against the rules. Multiple-time world champion Michael Schumacher still owns the fastest lap in Monaco at 1:14.439.

Circuit History

Formula One first graced the winding streets of Monte Carlo on the 14th of April 1929 and has since consistently conducted the race with an increased speed from 80 kilometres (50 miles) per hour to 142 kilometres (88 miles) per hour. The race itself has earned high regards from the drivers themselves, as it demands precision driving, technical excellence and sheer bravery for the pilots to claim victory.

The biggest names in the history of F1 has won the Monte Carlo with Ayrton Senna taking the prize six times, Graham "Mr. Monaco" Hill and Michael Schumacher claiming five victories a piece, Alain Prost taking home four wins, and Stirling Moss and Jackie Stewart gaining three victories each. But claiming wins is easier said than done as the famed circuit presents remote chances for drivers to pass the competition and leaves no margin for error.
