The 2008 Spanish Grand Prix is the fourth round of the 2008 Formula One season, and will take place at the Circuit de Catalunya in Spain from the 25th through the 27th of April 2008. The race, also known as the 2008 Gran Premio de España Telefónica, is in danger from getting cancelled with racist taunting of McLaren F1 driver Lewis Hamilton.

If the cancellation won't push through, the event will begin with the Friday Practice Sessions on the 25th of April with one practice happening in the morning at 10 A.M. and the other taking place in the afternoon at 2 P.M. Saturday practice will begin at 11 A.M. followed by the qualifying round at 2 P.M. The main event will take place on Sunday the 27th at 2 in the afternoon. (All times are subject to change)

Last year's race saw Ferrari's Felipe Massa keeping his momentum as he started from pole position for the third straight race before claiming his second consectuve win of the season. He qualified first with a time of 1:21.421, registered the fastest lap at 1:22.680 (current record), then outraced both the McLarens of Hamilton and Fernando Alonso with his 1:31:36.230 time. Also in the race, Honda's Takuma Sato notched his first points since the 2005 Hungarian Grand Prix.

Circuit History

The idea to build one of, if not, the most important winter testing ground in Formula One came to fruition in the mid 1980's when the Catalan parliament decided to construct an international standard racing circuit in the Barcelona area. Upon the acquisition of the land positioned 20 kilometers north of the city at Montmeló, the construction finally commenced on February of 1989. By September of 1991, the Circuit de Catalunya hosted its first grand prix with Nigel Mansell beating Ayrton Senna on the final straight.

The circuit is best known for being a very challenging one, with a combination of high and low-speed corners and an abrasive and quite bumpy track surface. But the most challenging part of the circuit would probably be the final two turns known as the "New Holland" as the drivers need to produce an extremely quick exit to maximise speed down the start-finish straight into Elf.
