About AMA American Motorcyclist Association

The American Motorcycle Association (AMA) was founded in Pickerington, Ohio in 1924 and represents the world's largest group of motorcycle enthusiasts.
The AMA's main purpose is to protect and promote the rights of racers and riders, by using its government relations work to sanction and oversee, both professional and amateur racing.
The AMA is also the sole American affiliate of the Federation Internationale de Motorcyclisme (FIM), the international governing body for motorcycle sports and touring activities.
The Motorcycle Hall of Fame Museum is based in their headquarters in Pickerington, Ohio.
The AMA's roots can be traced back to two organizations that preceded it, the Federation of American Motorcyclists (FAM), officially formed On September 7, 1903 during a meeting of motorcycling enthusiasts in Brooklyn: and the Motorcycle and Allied Trades Association (MATA),founded On November 15, 1916.
MATA took over some of FAM's responsibilities and eventually registered its Riders Division as the American Motorcycle Association on May 15, 1924. MATA went on to merge with the West Coast Motorcycle Safety Council to form the Motorcycle Industry Council (MIC), which continues today.
