ASA Late Model Series History
The USPRO Cup (now known as ASALMS) was formed in 2002 by Ron Varney and Chris Throgmartin using input from race drivers only, after feasibility studies showed there was a need for a financially viable and cost-controlled traveling series. No manufacturers or promoters were allowed to participate in this formation in order to avoid any conflicts of interest that might arise.
USPRO experienced phenomenal success and formed a partnership with the American Speed Association to form a new short track series; ASALMS.
In 2004, after the AMA ran into trouble, a deal to save the series was struck with Ron Varney (the original owner of USPRO). The series has remained a cost conscious, travelling series for drivers and teams from all walks of life and has continued to prosper under its new ownership.
