ASA American Speed Association History
The American Speed Association (ASA), based in Pendleton, Indiana, sanctioned a late model series, several regional touring series, and track member programs in the USA, from 1968 until its collapse in 2004.
Most teams from the ASA series moved to the American Stockcar League (ASL) series in 2005. But, there were two separate organizations born from ASA's failure: ASA Late Models, which carries on the ASA Late Model Stock car series car program, and ASA Racing (Member Tracks) which continues the sanctioning work for independent tracks and several of the regional series.
The cars from the ASA National tour are now raced in England in the SCSA Stock Car Speed Association (formally ASCAR).
ASA was also known for its fuel injected engine requirements, unlike NASCAR, which required CArburetors for its series.
