Aero GP's first race was on 25th october, 2005 and saw planes racing faster than Formula One cars. The course was a figure of eight, flown just a couple of metres above the ground and had heats for target bombing and air to air combat.

The first full annual international Aero GP series was launched in 2006 with seven venues around the world.
