Track Details
California Speedway is located at Cherry Avenue, Fontana California. This 2-mile D-shaped oval track has a banking of 14° turns, 11° frontstretch, and 3° backstretch. It can accomodate 92,000 spectators.
History
California Speedway was built on a 568-acre site that once hosted Kaiser Steel Mill which was the first steel mill located west of the Rocky Mountains that eventually went out of business in 1983.
On the 20th of April 2004 there was an official announcement of Penske/Kaiser joint venture to construct a permanent superspeedway in Southern California. The track was completed on 1997.The Winston West Series race on June 21, 1997 which was won by Ken Schrader , is the first race held on the track.
Penske Motorsports Inc. joined forces with International Speedway Corporation to bring California Speedway into the ISC family of tracks. California Speedway's 2-mile oval became the host of two NASCAR Cup Series races each year starting the year 2004.
