Biography

Carl Edwards Jr. was born on Aug. 15, 1979 in Columbia, Missouri. He is the son of Carl "Mike" Edwards, a stock car driver and USAC Midgets for four decades. In 1993, at 13, following his father's footsteps, Carl Jr. began his racing career.

The next year, Edwards won four feature races in the mini-sprint series in Missouri and Illinois. He bagged 14 additional feature wins in the same series throughout the years 1995 to 1996.

Edwards moved to the dirt track to compete in the IMCA modified division in 1997. He was named the 1998 Rookie of the Year in the IMCA modified division at Capitol Speedway in Holt, Summit, Missouri.

Edwards collected 13 feature wins in the Modified Division in 1999 on his way to NASCAR Track Championship.


In 2000, Edwards gathered 13 feature wins, became Capital Speedway Track Champion and was named Rookie-of-the-Year in the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series. He also competed and won in three Sportsman Division Races in the same year at California, Missouri and Capital Speedway.


In 2001, he won nine out of eleven Baby Grand Division Races.

Edwards bagged the Baby Grand National Championship in 2002.

Edwards entered Roush Racing in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series in 2003. He collected three win and became Raybestos Rookie-of-the-Year.

In 2004, Edwards won the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series at Daytona. He joined the Nextel Cup Series in the same year.

He won Raybestos Rookie-of-the-Year in 2005.
