Biography

David Carl Allison, also known as Davey, was born on February 25, 1961 in Hollywood, Florida.He was the eldest son of the great stock car racing driver Bobby Allison and wife Judy.

At the age of 12, Davey began to work at Bobby Allison Racing.

Davey raced and won in several series through the years 1979 until 1983. He won his first Talladega pole and race in the ARCA Series. In 1984, he was named Rookie of the Year and became all-time leading winner on super speedways in the same series the following year. He had his first Winston Cup start in 1985.

In 1987, Davey was offered by Harry Rainier a ride in the #28, replacing the great Cale Yarborough. He became the first rookie to sit on the front row in the Daytona 500.

In 1988, Davey and and father Bobby raced side-by-side for several laps in the season opening Daytona 500, with Bobby as the winner and Davey as second best. A terrible thing happened in June that year at Pocono Raceway which ended his father Bobby's career. Bobby Allison cut a tire and spun into and off the wall in turn two which injured his brain.

Davey married his second wife Elizabeth 'Liz" Mayson in 1989 and they were blessed with children Krista Marie, who was born christmas eve of the same year and Robert Grey.

July 12, 1993, the helicopter Davey was piloting crashed in the infield of Talledaga Superspeedway. He died the next day July 13, 1993 at the age of 32.
