Biography

A native of Chesterfield, Vancouver, Denny Hamlin, was born on November 18, 1980. At the age of 7, Hamlin won his first race. In 1992, he was track champion at the Southside Speedway. In 1994, he became an Amelia Motor Raceway Track Champion.

He won State Champion in the World Karting Association Virginia Dirt Series 1995.

At age 16, he had his first season driving a stock car in 1997. Hamlin won NASCAR Mini Stock Rookie of the Year at Southside and Langley Speedways. He became youngest driver to win NASCAR Mini Stock track championship at Langley Speedway.

In 1999, Hamlin won an award for Most Popular Driver in NASCAR Grand Stock Division.

In 2000, he bagged the Rookie of the year award for the NASCAR Weekly Racing Series Late Model Stock Car Division in Richmond, Virginia.

Hamlin won as Nextel Cup Raybestos Rookie of the Year in 2006. He was the first Rookie to win Budweiser Shootout, make the Chase for the Cup and finish on the lead lap at Bristol in their first attempt.
