The Force India VJM01 is a formula one car that will represent the Force India team in the 2008 FIA Formula 1 World Championship starting in March when the Australian Grand Prix unfolds.

After Dr. Vijay Mallya bought Spyker in 2007, the team will now be known as Force India for the 2008 season and despite the takeover, the rebranded team will continue to use Spyker's F8-VII chassis for the first part of the season, rechristened as the Force India VJM01.

The new vehicle was launched on the 7th of February 2008 with its new livery of gold, tungsten and white. Present in the unveiling were several eminent personalities, political leaders and a bevy of celebrities and corporate head honchos along with the leadership team of Force India. The VJM01 has its first testing scheduled in Barcelona from the 25th to 27th of February 2008.

Seasoned driver Giancarlo Fisichella, who has had a tour of duty with Renault, and Adrian Sutil, who raced with Spyker last season, will be behind the VJM01 wheels in the 2008 Grands Prix. Vitantonio Liuzzi, formerly of Toro Rosso, will be the team's reserve and test driver.

Design

The VJM01 is basically the same car used at the end of last year by Spyker but is sporting a different look with a White/Gold/Red paint finish. The predecessor, the F8-VII, is described as a solid base on which to build since they had a limited amount of time to produce the car.

Miday through the season the team launched a "B Specification" car, the F8-VIIB, which was originally scheduled to race in the Turkish Grand Prix. Unfortunately, the car failed the mandatory FIA crash testing programme and its debut had to be pushed to the Italian Grand Prix.

Livery and Sponsorship

Vijay Mallya’s company, Kingfisher (an airline and beer brand), is the main sponsor. ICICI Bank, Medion, Alpinestars, 4net, AVG Internet Security, Roto Zip, MaxCredible, Metris, and Samsung among others are also featured sponsors.
