Track Details
Infineon Raceway is located in Highways 37 and 121 Sonoma, California. It is a 1.99 mile road course track with 12 turns.
History
Infineon Raceway is built on a breathtaking rolling hills at the gateway to the Sonoma Wine Country. Owners Robert Marshall Jr., a lawyer from Point Reyes, and land developer Jim Coleman of Kentfield had the idea of a racetrack while on a hunting trip. Groundbreaking was held on August of the same year. On Dec. 1, 1968, Infineon Raceway held its first big event, the SCCA Enduro.
Due to a $300,000 loss, the track closed and became a tax shelter for Filmways in 1970.
In 1975, Bob Bondurant, William J. Kolb of Del Mar and Howard Meister of Newport Beach, bought the track from Filmways for a sum of $1.5 million. The Long Beach Grand Prix Association became their partner in hopes of improving marketing and public relations.
In 1989, NASCAR had its debut on the track with Ricky Rudd as the victor.
