Mud Racing

Mud racing, or mud bogging/mud drags, have one sole aim - to drive a machine, usually a truck, through a mud pit of a set length, in the shortest time. The first mud racers were pick-up trucks and SUVs with raised suspension and large tyres, to raise them out of the mud.

The modern 'bogger' machine can have paddle or scoop tyres, huge supercharged/nitrous oxide engines and dragster-style "rail" design bodies.

The National Mud Racing Organization (NMRO) is the only national sanctioning body for the sport of straight-line mud racing.

There are 6 classes of NMRO Mud Drags split into Sportsman and Pro Series classes.

Class Vehicle Engines Tyres
Stock, Mini & Full Size Trucks Stock Stock 4/6-cylinder engines for jeeps and stock 8/10 cylinder engines for full sized trucks. D.O.T. approved, For all mini trucks and Jeeps.
Modified Stock Modified Stock Stock 8/10 cylinder engines, which must pull 15” of vacuum at 800 rpms D.O.T. approved, For all full sized trucks.
Super Stock Stock appearing truck or Jeep, steel or fibreglass Factory production, naturally aspirated, single 4-barrel carb Fuel: gasoline/diesel only, mods permitted. .O.T. approved, no cut tires, 45” max. height.
Modified Any body, chassis, 140” max. wheel base. Factory or tube frame. Factory production, naturally aspirated Fuel: alcohol and nitrous oxide allowed. D.O.T. approved, cuts tires allowed, 45” max. height.
Unlimited/Cut Tires Any body, chassis, 150” max. wheel base. Factory or tube frame. Turbocharged or supercharged Fuel: alcohol and nitrous oxide allowed. D.O.T. approved, cuts tires allowed, 45” max. height, 18” max width.
Unlimited/Paddle Tyres Any body, chassis, 150” max. wheel base. Factory or tube frame. Turbocharged or supercharged Fuel: alcohol and nitrous oxide allowed. D.O.T. approved, paddle of scoop allowed, 45” max. height, 18” max. width.
