Sept. 11, 1955: Juan Manuel Fangio wins the race in Monza for Mercedes. It was one of the 24 wins he had in his nine-year career. At this same race, Gordini team manager Jean Lucas made his F1 racing debut--and finale--as a substitute to regular driver Robert Manzon when he was unable to compete. Lucas ended the race with an engine failure and rapped up his F1 career scoreless in the championship scoreboard.
