Also known as hill climbing, speed hillclimbing or speed hill climbing, Hillclimbing is a motorcycle sport in which riders, aboard offroad motorcycles, compete against other participants through a straight up extremely steep hills. Competition is done one rider at a time and the rider which is able to climb the highest---or in cases where more than one reaches the top---the fastest to do so, will be the winner. Hillclimbing events normally take place on closed public roads and private roads, for both tarmac and off-road, with the latter usually conducted on steeper hills. This motorsport has a long tradition in the USA and is quite popular internationally as well, including in France and Austria since the 1980s.

The North American Hillclimbers Association (NAHA) is an organization that covers one of the oldest forms of motorcycle competition and the one dubbed as the original extreme sport, the American Hill Climb. It caters to both the semi-pro and professional hillclimb riders and unlike the typical hillclimbing competitions in the east (which are held in hills that tend to be highly groomed and has faster terrains), holds events on rough terrains and ungroomed uphill courses mostly in the western part of the United States. Contest is open to several classes, including the 250-450cc and 451-700cc classes, and the senior class, among others.
