Offshore Powerboat Racing is a glamourous and exciting type of water racing involving large, ocean-going powerboats in a test of technical innovation and immense power with speeds varying from 65mph to 190mph, depending on the class. Offshore Powerboat Racing is one of the more expensive boating competition around since the machines utilized in this competition are highly sophisticated and expensive, not to mention the high cost of fuel used for these type of boats. Offshore powerboat racing in Europe, Middle East & Asia are being regulated by the Dubai based WPPA which allows the sport to have a bigger variety in engines and props. In the United States, competition is split between the OPA Races, SBI / APBA / UIM races and the OSS races. Offshore powerboat racing is more of a circuit racing style rather than an old fashioned endurance type, which is believed to be more entertaining to watch.
