Sports Car Racing is a motor sport that pits two-seater and enclose wheeled vehicles we have all come to know as sports car. These fancy vehicles trace their roots to the classic models that competed in the early 20th century, racing competitions such as the Targa Florio, which ran from 1906 through 1977, and the Mille Miglia in 1927. However, the most prominent of this kind of race is still the annual Le Mans 24 Hours endurance race which is still an active race for more than eight decades now, since its first run in 1923. The popularity of this kind of races has spilled out of the racing circuits as evident by the many car enthusiasts who continue to patronize the road cars that have been manufactured by leading sports car producers such as Ferrari, BMW, Porsche, Lotus, Maserati, Alfa Romeo, Mercedes-Benz, Jaguar, and Aston Martin. Among the more popular sports car events currently run in North America include the American Le Mans Series, the Speed World Challenge, and the Rolex Sports Car Series.

The 24 Hours of Le Mans (24 Heures du Mans) is one of the pioneers in the world of sports car events. This sports car endurance race organized by the Automobile Club de l'Ouest (ACO) is annually being held near the town of Le Mans, Sarthe, France since 1923 and has earned the tag as the Grand Prix of Endurance. The 24 Hour race is usually being contested by 50 challengers comprised of various racing classes competing simultaneously. By the end of the event, winner from all the classes, as well the overall leader, will be awarded. The four classes that will be competing are the LMP1 and the LMP2 (for custom-built Le Mans Prototypes divided by speed, weight, and power output), and the GT1 and GT2 (for production-based grand tourer classes divided by speed, weight, and power output).
