Yacht Racing

Yacht Racing is a watersport of competitive sailing where a variety of boats, whether it be small dinghies, catamarans, boats designed primarily for cruising, and purpose-built raceboats, are being used to compete. Yacht racing may be held in protected waters like the harbour or bouy racing (races that normally last from a few minutes to a few hours), in unprotected waters (from land to nearby islands) such as inshore racing (races maybe daylight only, overnight or passage races of several days), or in open and in greater body of water like offshore racing (race may span for at least a number of hours). Other kinds of yacht racing apart from the three aforementioned include the three peaks yacht race, a team competition held in the United Kingdom where participants are required to sail, ride a bicycle, and run.

The America's Cup is a renowned harbour or buoy racing event where the winner will be awarded with the prestigious trophy of the same name, which happens to be the oldest active trophy in international sport. The contest, dubbed as the “Holy Grail” of yachting, have been known to draw the best sailors and yacht designers in the scene. This yacht competition is a challenge-driven yacht series that currently involves a best-of-nine series of match racing (a duel between two boats) between the winner of the Louis Vuitton Cup (a title awarded to the winner of the challenger selection series) and the current championship holder. If the challenging team wins the cup, the cup’s ownership is transferred from the defender’s yacht club to the winning team’s yacht club.
