Turismo Carretera is the most popular car racing series in Argentina, featuring stock cars similar to those used in the American NASCAR series.

The Turismo Carretera race event first took place in 1937 with 12 races, and up until the 1960s, held in temporarily closed roads.

The class became high tech in the late 1960s with the advent of heavy investment from the manufacturing community.

In the 1980s, a spin-off from the series was the TC 2000, that allowed the smaller cars like Peugeot, Renault, Fiat and Volkswagen into the mix. TC 2000 soon became as popular as TC itself.
