The NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series (formerly Supertruck Series) was created in 1995 and soon became popular with NASCAR fans.

The first few races used slightly different rules to the other NASCAR series'. races were kept to a maximum of 125 miles on long tracks and 150 laps on shorter ones. Nowadays the races are a minimum of 200 laps on short tracks and average 250 miles on long tracks.

A ten minute, half time break, instead of pit stops, was also introduced early on in the history, both for safety and economic reasons and soon became standard. This also gives the spectators at home a unique chance to see the teams and drivers being interviewed while their machines are being serviced.
