Timo Glock (born March 18, 1982 in Lindenfels, Germany) is a German formula one race car driver for the Toyota F1 formula one team. Glock started his career relatively late at the age of 15, still proceeding the same route as most F1 drivers by competing in karting, but has shown his ability to adapt to the nature of the sport quickly.
Glock is also armed with vast experience in GP2 and is considered as one of the "darkhorses" in the upcoming races after being able to hone his racing skills at a very competitive level with the GP2. But he won't be relying solely on his GP2 background as he has spent enough time with the Formula One as a test driver. Glock, who has yet to see action for one full season, is among the select few who have scored a World Championship point in their first Formula One race.

Career
Early Career
Glock went through the process of karting like almost everyone in the world of Formula One in 1998, but unlike most of the F1 racers, he started karting a little late at 15. The difference however was not blatant as he was able to prove that he was up to par by winning several karting championships. He karted from 1998 to '99 before taking his act to the realms of Formula BMW Junior Cup in 2000, winning the championship that year before claiming the ADAC Formula BMW title the following year for Team Mamerow.
In 2002, Glock chose to try his luck in Formula Three rather than Formula Renault, aligning himself with the Opel Team KMS and finishing third with 3 wins and 2 poles. The newcomer also garnered Rookie of the Year honors for his efforts that season and was eventually invited to compete in the inaugural Formula 3 Euroseries the following year. Still competing for Opel Team KMS, Glock gutted it out with the finest crop of international drivers---including eventual winner Ryan Briscoe and runner-up Christian Klien---managing to salvage a 5th place finish with three wins and three podium finishes.
Entry to Formula One (2004)
Despite doing pretty well in F3, Glock's resume was not as decorated as many Formula teams would've wanted, and so offers to compete in the next level was scarce. Nevertheless, Glock managed to make it to the big leagues via the back door after receiving support from the Deutsche Post's Speed Academy paving the way for his entry to the Jordan team in 2004 as the team's official test and reserve driver. Though he was prevented from making other commitments, Glock had the chance to race for Jordan as Giorgio Pantano's replacement for the 2004 Canadian Grand Prix. Racing alongside Nick Heidfeld, Glock managed to finish 11th aboard the EJ14 but with a stroke of luck, landed four places higher after the final tally when the Williams and Toyota cars were disqualified, thus earning for himself his first career championship points and in the process becoming one of the few rookies to score in their debut. After Pantano sorted out his financial problems, Glock returned to test driving duties only to be recalled back in the season's last three Grands Prix in place of the struggling Italian, whose best finish was a 13th place that year. Unfortunately, Glock never came through in his final performances, ending the season with three straight 15th place finishes enroute to a 19th place finish in the driver's championship.
Champ Car (2005)
Glock's chances of landing the second seat at Jordan blew up after Russian investors took over the team, leaving the German in seek for other racing opportunities. Doing well in tests, Glock eventually landed a spot at the Rocketsports team of Paul Gentilozzi in lieu of Alex Tagliani. There, Glock made the best out of his opportunity with his consistent performance, almost stealing a win in a tight race with Oriol Servia at the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve in Montreal. Nonetheless, he was able to score 202 points in his debut, good for an 8th place finish and apparently, a Champ Car World Series Rookie of the Year accolades.
GP2 (2006-07)
Glock ultimately decided against continuing his blossoming career in the US based series to direct his attention of landing back a spot at Formula One, this time taking the GP2 route which is F1's supporting series. He began his GP2 journey with the midfield BCN Competicion team but with less spectacular output. By midseason, Glock decided to switch teams, moving to the front-running iSport team and with better results, winning the Hockenheim race but was hampered by a wrist injury later in the season. Glock was definitely overshadowed by his competition which included Lewis Hamilton and Nelson Angelo Piquet, nevertheless he finished the season with a respectable 4th place finish worth 58 points. Glock also earned test driving duties later that year, signed by BMW Sauber as the second test driver behind Sebastian Vettel.
iSport retained the services of Glock for the 2007 season, and the decision paid off not long after with Glock putting up a show with a runner-up finish in Sakhir to open the season, followed by a victory at Circuit de Catalunya. Glock ended the year strongly with a total of five wins, including four sprint race victories to claim the championship with 92 points. That same year, BMW driver Robert Kubica suffered a serious crash in Canada but the team decided to go with lead test driver Vettel to fill in his shoes. Vettel would then go on and cash in at an opening with the Toro Rosso team later that year, leaving Glock as BMW's main test and reserve driver.
Formula One - Toyota F1 (2008)
Glock finally reaped the fruits of his hardwork during the latter stages of 2007. His remarkable stint at GP2 landed him an offer for a seat at the Toyota F1 team. For a moment, Glock had to hold his breath as at that moment, he was still tied with BMW as a test driver. But after the case was brought to the Contract Recognition Board, the CRB would eventually declare Glock a free man on the 16th of November 2007 and three days later, Glock formally signed the contract to race for Toyota F1 for the next three years in place of Ralf Schumacher, with Jarno Trulli as his teammate.
