The Toyota TF108 is the Formula One racing car developed and engineered by Toyota and will be competing for the first time on behalf of the Panasonic Toyota Racing team in the Australian Grand Prix of the 2008 FIA Formula 1 World Championship.
Toyota unveiled their latest car at the team's headquarters in Cologne, Germany on the 10th of January 2008 just days after Ferrari and McLaren launched their 2008 challengers. Several team officials from Panasonic Toyota Racing as well as drivers Jarno Trulli, Timo Glock and Kamui Kobayashi were on hand to take the wraps off the TF108 in front of the worldwide media and thousands of fans live through video streaming at the team's website, [www.toyota-f1.com].
Design
Team Panasonic Toyota Racing is aiming to bounce back from a disappointing 2007 season with the advent of the TF108. The new car differs from the TF107 mainly in two areas, the wheelbase and the aerodynamics. The former has been lengthened to improve vehicle stability (much like what Ferrari did with their 2007 championship car, the F2007) while the latter on the other hand, has a significantly improved packaging (area that lacked from last year's design).
In addition to the design adjustments made to conform to new regulations imposed on the entire series, including further structural safety measures and the standardized ECU, the TF108 has a revised suspension and a new (7-speed sequential) gearbox while also putting focus on cleaning the air flow around the front suspension, maximising the zero keel concept of the front suspension.
Wind tunnel tests and simulations have indicated a marked improvement from last year's challenger, drawing high expectations from officials and supporters of the team.
